Oil pump conversion 1100 - 750 pump gearing

    Hi all
Have Ben reading up on how the 1100 ( & 1000 ) oil pump system is a "high volume, but low pressure" system ( 1:1.03 ratio ).
Comments even that at idle the oil light can flicker as the sensor becomes old.

The suggestion is to change both the Drive & driven gears to a 750 system ( 1:1.31 ratio ).

Has anyone done this and is this the preferred upgrade if using an oil cooler system?

Suggestions welcome as the gears cost a bit!

I had done it in my SZ, because I was greedy. I didn't feel the effect, and I don't think it's necessary, but if you want to do it, I won't object. Happy Birthday to You!

I went through this same thinking while building mine Stuart as I wanted to do the bottom end up right the first time.

The final consensus was basically if you're not racing, you don't need to worry about it. Just make sure the oil pump is in good working order, all the oil galleries are clear, and you'll be fine.

Hi Stuart, when Suzuki designed the GSX 1100 powerplant they were still thinking in terms of bulletproof reliable engines and so the 1000 and 1100 are low pressure high volume oil feed as the high volume flow was designed to keep the roller bearing mains and the rest of the oil galleries well feed. The plain bearing crank in the 750 was designed with a high pressure low volume oil system. Many owners have installed the 750 oil pump into their 1100 Kat and ya don't hear of any issues, or they don't report any issues? For me it's a case of if it ain't broke don't fix it. I like the idea of plenty of oil flowing through the engine.

Badgezz, we don need nor stinkin' badgezz!
