    AFAIK
    GR71D-1000xx is right for the first batch of imports plated 7/84 (one I had was 97)

    subsequent batches were GR72A-1xxxxx

    Japanese market models were

    GSX750S-3 : F.No.GR72A-115447~
    GSX750S-4 : F.No.GR72A-119922~

    subsequent batches were GR72A-1xxxxx


    For no apparent reason...
    It's just a guess, but GR72A were Excess Inventory of JDM. Since they weren't very popular in Japan at that time, they were probably exported overseas.

    The neighboring countries of Japan at that time had no demand for large motorcycles. Australia, new Zealand and Japan are keeping to the left of the road. I think the exchange rate was also reasonable. That's why I guessed that way. It's just my guess. I don't know the truth.
