Hi everyone well this will be another addition to my Katana collection a 3/1987 Suzuki Katana 1100 with allot off trick bits on and the team at Old Gold found this one on there recent trip to Japan and it is ADR compliant and looking forward to late august when the bike arrives. For me it is close to the '84 1100 and the team knew straight away this Red Kat had my name on it. Also the exhaust system will be changed to a full Titanium Yoshi System and that will look very nice. Also it has a GSXR 1100 braced swing arm.
Lastly Steve at Old Gold has a couple of Katanas arriving also so send him an email for further updates.

G'day Nick, Good score on your "SBE", I also prefer sensible modifications and improvements over original anyday. Cheers Ian

Very nice pick up. You blokes with all your bikes are the type of people my wife doesn't want me to associate with. This forum could end up being expensive for her. I will need a bigger shed. I am starting to see I need one of each!

I have convinced my wife that it is part of my superannuation investment policy. Working so far.

Thanks Nige, and bring on August. Will stick to the plan and ride the '83 750 S2 to Khancoban in November and the '81 1100 Katana to the 35th.

Received a call from Steve at Old Gold and my Kat is on its way and also he advised he is bringing in two other Kats, one has front end damage and the other has rear end damage. If anyone wants further info contact Old Gold Motorcycles.

Hi Nick & all,

Just thought I would let you know that I have secured one of the 1100's that Old Gold is bringing in; paid my deposit today. I took the one with the front end damage as it doesn't seem too severe, aloooong way from straight, but a good project for me to play with for several months to overcome my injuries and get the enthusiasm back.

Thank you very much Nick for your direct contact over the last month helping me through this time, and also thank you for the contact with Steve at Old Gold; I'm sure I got mates rates...

Some images below. Apparently it's a 1990 model, so I'm a bit unsure how correct the colour scheme is, seat in particular.

Fantastic news Phil and so happy i was able to help and do not get comfortable with my Yoshi race system on your bike,:D, as it will go on the '87 1100 Kat and they will fit up the black system off that to your Katana. I did not know it was an '90 model so that is good news again.

Good news on the '87 1100 SBE Katana and it has N.S.W. rego and needs some work on the Yoshi race System and should have the bike home next week and will post photos. Now off to the Bank Manager and sign off for another Kat loan. The team at Old Gold have taken the bike for ride and it has a strong engine with a nice surprise a Outani ignition with four settings and this Katana has a great growl. Only hassle is the custom made braced swing arm has no markings for chain adjustment.
Nick;)

No worries Nick just get yourself a chain laser and set it up. Which will be more accurate than notches in a swing arm.

I think I saw one on the net the other day and it was a magnetized one that attaches to the rear sprocket.Neat little thing just cant remember how much.No where near as expensive as retro Kat string though!

I bought mine from a trade stall at the Laverda concourse a few years ago, it is a Profi CAT Laser DOT Chain alignment tool. Works a treat and wasn't expensive.

Thanks for the reply's gents and the team at Old Gold with do a string test and they will place some small markings on the swing arm near the rear axle on both sides for me. Need to have the Titanium Yoshimura race system modified as to give it more room near the swing arm bracing. The Black system was put on Phil's bike and was sent to Melbourne last week.

A Trammel gauge is the quickest & easiest method if you want to set up your chain adjuster marks, I got this one http://www.sharpracing.com.au/axle-truing-jig/ & it's one of the most used tools in my workshop - you wouldn't believe the amount of bikes that have the marks off square out of the factory.
4mm difference is the record & I'm ashamed to say it was a brand new Suzuki :-(

Thanks for the link Turbo, time to sort through the cut off bin and make one for the Kat. Like Murf said, factory " Special Katana String" is very exy so this is a better option I think.

Cheers.
